amity

board game console

During the fall semester of my junior year, I was part of a four person design team with the goal of designing a product for older adults.

We created Amity; the board game console designed to provide a fun shared experience between the aging population and their loved ones. Data shows that almost 25% of adults over the age of 65 are considered to be socially isolated. Social isolation is associated with a 50% increased risk of dementia and other serious medical conditions. Amity uses physical playing pieces and integrated video calling to provide meaningful engagement despite any distance. The secondary screen can be placed in one of two orientations and is used for video calling, in-game features, and settings. Tactile playing pieces leverage the main board’s screen to customize the piece’s functions for endless game possibilities. Even though the players may be far apart, Amity brings people together over the shared experience of a friendly game.

Aside from research and concept ideation, my main role in this team was designing Amity’s UI, 2D animations of the UI, and presentation layouts.
